The Birth Of Our King

What I enjoyed: painting and blending the background.
What I found difficult:  I lost my original silhouette, so I had to make and cut another one and rushed it.
Luke 2:7 "And she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them."

Camp

Camp

Day One: Monday/
We were waiting to go on the bus.
Once it was time, we got on the bus and were now heading to Woodends christian camp.
it was very exciting.
When were got there, he walked to the main hall where we were told the rules and what room we were in, I was in the same room as Simon, Sione, Lachlan, Zach and Micah.
The first activity we did was the aero jump.
Our second activity was the flying fox. i was really worried i'd fall.
the adults and staff told us that the water slide would be open,
so then people changed into their togs and went down the water slide.
the bell rang and got ready for dinner, we had chili/mince meat and beans, nachos, cheese, and vegetables.
after dinner, we had DESERT, ice cream and apple crumble, it was delicious.
Fortunately, we were able to spotlight at like 9:00PM
At night, I couldn't sleep because someone was snoring.
Day Two: Tuesday/
We woke up and got ready for breakfast,
I had porridge with sliced peaches.
Afterwards we got free time.
We then were arranged in groups, I was in group 2 with Sione, Nikita, Kylie, Talia, Denise, Jimmy, Lachlan and Mikaela.
The second activity we did was Team Building, it was lead by Willy
Our group got 15 seconds on the figure of eight part.
Next part we were split into 2 teams , we had to push other people up onto a log where we had to go upside down and onto the ground legs first.
Last part was getting up through a wall.
The second activity was the Climbing Wall. There were 4 different parts on the climbing wall, the first two were the easiest part and while the last two were difficult.
For dinner, we had chicken, peas, corn, carrot, mashed potato, baked potatoes and gravy.
for desert, we had cheesecakes, there was a multitude of cheesecake and flavours.
It was announced that there was gonna be St Bernadette's got talent.
people had 30 minutes to prepare.
The time had come and it was fantastic, there were funny plays, stories, performances and  people singing.
At night, when it was time to go sleep, the snoring was now worse.
Day Three: Wednesday
I was able to get some sleep, but it kinda wasn't enough.
we had porridge, this time, I had a bowl of cornflakes with peaches and some toast.
the loudest cabins at night had to clean out the toilets, i was so happy we weren't loud.

the first activity we did was Orienteering with Jaimie, we had to find poles in a forest from A to Z but we skipped the last ones.
Second activity was Mini Golf, I partnered with my best friend, I was winning because i had a lower score than him.
Our last activity was Go Karts, there was a go kart on a track and we took turns having a go through the course.
it was free time and minutes has passed, it was almost time to leave.
we had hot dogs before we went. a lot of glasses broke on the last day, about 3 or more.
the bus had arrived and our luggage was put into the bus.

It was a really great camp.

Bullfighting

Should Bullfighting be banned?

I think that bullfighting should be banned, It's a cruel sport and shouldn't use their funds for raising bulls and killing them. Here are my reasons.

Each year, 250,000 bulls are killed from this sport, these bulls are being killed for entertainment and money. Only a minority of Spaniards have interest in bullfighting

Another reason is that these bulls are tormented & chased until they can hardly breathe,  tied up  and stabbed, puncturing their hearts. This is very inhumane and cruel, bulls should only have a peaceful lives.

At Night

W.A.L.T:  Use “show not tell”.

At Night, I was trying to sleep, but I couldn’t because I was overheating and I needed to cool down. So I thought about going to the fridge to get some cold water (I sleep with the lights on)
Suddenly, the light disappeared. I could hear a thump at same time the light disappeared. I couldn’t move at all, I didn’t want to. I was overheating more, sweating and tried to be silent as i can. After many minutes, I finally got up from my bed and charged at the switch, hoping nothing was gonna get me. The switch wasn’t working. I quickly searched for a torch and investigated was happened. The lightbulb only just fell off.

What kind of things were you able to infer in my writing?

Writing: Tapa Cloths

W.a.l.t Writing aspects of an information report structure - indentify the significance of Ngatu in the Tongan culture
we've been researching about tapa cloths and writing an information report about them.
(this is part of our tongan studies)
                               Video
Ngatu ~ Tapa Cloths

What is a Ngatu?
A Ngatu is the tongan name for tapa cloth/decorated bark cloth. It’s a Treasure and an old tradition in pacific culture. In the old days  in tonga, Tapa cloth was used for many reasons, It was used for clothing, bedding, painting to be hanged and many more. When cotton material was introduced it replaced most tapa cloths It is used to wrap the newborns, and the dead.  It is now used on formal occasions, Ceremonies, Weddings, Birthdays and funeral

How do you make Ngatu?
For how it is made. A large group of both men and women make the tapa cloth. So it starts with the mulberry tree, there is a outer layer and an inner layer. The Outer layer gets scraped off exposing the inner layer of bark, also the outer layer is not needed. The Inner layer is peeled from the tree and dried out in the sun. After it has been dried, it is soaked in water to make them soft. Afterwards the bark is beaten on an anvil with a wooden mallet called the ike. One side is flat while the other is course with fine grooves. The course side is used first, before the end the flat side is used. When the strips are thin enough, they’re taken and beaten together with the ike to make a large sheet. Edge’s that don’t want to stick, are rubbed with starch of tapioca and other things to have
Them stick together. Afterwards they then dry it in the sun again.

The Tapa cloth is decorated by stenciling, dyeing, rubbing or stamping. The tapa usually form a grid of squares, each having the patterns and designs of their natural environment and sometimes foreign symbols.

This Writing has covered what a Ngatu is, how it’s made and the significance of it.

This is probably the finished product.

Reading: Should cellphones be banned in schools?

We've been learning how to write a persuasive text. This persuasive text is about our serial story, and how they've banned cellphones in school. We're writing if they should be banned.

Should Cellphones be banned in schools?
I believe cellphones should not be banned in schools. This will have facts about how useful cellphones are.

Cellphones are convenient to have, for example, all cellphones are able to access the internet, They are just as helpful as other devices like laptops, etc you’ll get a wider access of information. they can research and go to websites to further help extend their work. This means that Another thing cellphones can be used for is to call for help in emergencies. They’d be able to call or dial 111 to report any emergencies. (Parents do provide cellphones to their child/ren for emergency usage.)

If cellphones are permitted,There should be rules and responsibilities about the use of cellphone, (Like when and where cellphones can and cannot be used.) Schools could encourage PCs in classroom while encouraging cellphone usage out of classrooms. Of course students need to learn how to use cellphones responsibly. Student should know they shouldn’t use it to cheat on tests, cyberbully and many more… if necessary, teachers could have students put their cellphones on airplane mode. Making them unable to use the internet. or have them put it in the front of the classroom until it’s over. (But is a risk if an emergency occurs)

In conclusion I think cellphones should be allowed in school. They’re just really helpful to have. It can be a lifesaver and are able to access a lot of information. as long as the student is responsible, there won’t be any harm done.

What I found difficult: Finding websites that aren't about why cellphones should be banned.
What I need to do next time: Put in the websites i used to research.

Writing: Subterranean Wasteland

This week We've picked out a key and writing what this key would open.

Subterranean Wasteland

My Friends and I, Frank, were just a group of adventurers  were now biking to a near forest about half a mile away but it wasn’t fun... I was the person who had to pretty much carry everything, I asked why but they told me i had to my part of the work, which annoyed me.

Once we were there we pulled out everything within the bags and started to make our camp,

We were talking about how great it is camping but I forgot what we did then… We  wandered

around the forest with our flashlights looking for sticks to make our campfire where I then found key, I asked my friends and assumed what it might unlock, so we wandered around the forest more. I gave up after minutes and walked back to finding more stick to make a campfire, i’ve picked up just enough sticks to make the campfire, I lit a piece of paper and threw it slipping through the sticks structure, it keeps burning until it’s catch the sticks on fire and burnt to a black charcoal colour. That’s when my friends came back to tell me about a huge underground wasteland covered by mist that probably stretches more than the eye could see. It sounded interesting and insisted we uncover the things it holds.

I follow my friends to where they found they underground wasteland, but it wasn’t there... They said it was here and looked for it everywhere, I was very disappointed and too good to be true to explore a vast, abandoned place, People would have already found it probably in the daytime.

But that all changed when I saw my friends getting knocked out one by one before i was knocked unconscious. Once I woke up I was somewhere else it wasn’t the forest but like the subterranean wasteland my friends described but it actually was full of objects. Before I saw my friends, there was a key beside me and only me, I picked it up and put in my pocket. I then proceeded to wake up the others by making big amounts of noise near their ears. They all regained conscious were all probably processing what just happened, minutes later Jerry insisted that we explore the place to find out how we can get out.

We split into teams and went different directions, we used tape we found earlier so we couldn’t get lost. While exploring the vast land, my team found a car covered by a thick layer of dust which points out that it hasn’t been touched for years. It was pretty big so my team help  me clean the car to check if anything is inside, it had enough seats to fit everyone I remembered that I had a key in my pockets so I picked it up and tried to use it, It worked! The door opened I came in to find the car had no fuel, i asked if they could find any fuel and in no time they came back with a lot of fuel, one of our friends said he will drive.

We followed the tape back to the spot to find everyone there, everyone there was filled with relief that there was a car, the other team told us that there was a ramp and they’ll have to follow the other colored tape. The other teams didn’t find anything interesting. We were then on the tape trail to go escape this place. We went through the maze of rubble and objects to the ramp. Our friend didn’t hesitate to go on the ramp. Once we were up the ramp we could see our camp and the sun shining down, we knew we were back to safety and celebrated. We left the car because we didn’t want to get arrested of theft and packed our camp in the bags.

(I had to still carry most of the bags though) We found our bikes and biked back to our houses.

I was in my house where i was thinking that I should really get some rest.

what I enjoyed: writing my own story of a key.

What I should do next time: actually write more about the key

Writing: Ballad

we've been working on our ballads for writing the past week,
this is my ballad, it's like a poem.

 Ballad
Start, the game had now started
Right of the bat they were being outsmarted
They had to find some other way
For it was a big moment for them today
 Many minutes have already passed
It looked like they were having a blast

Time was slipping through their fingers
Knowing of that fact the enemy lingers
They had to protect the objectives
For the enemy had other perspectives

What would be able to oppose the threat
But to spread out armed with their trusty bayonet
They couldn’t think of a way with their limited amount of time
Wouldn’t be able to counter they enemies soon perfect crime

Showing despair yet though they didn’t care
Knowing of a lost that they had to bare
But somehow the enemy team had ran out of time
Just a seconds away before they heard the bells chime

Disappointed by people who wanted to wait
They should’ve gone earlier, too little to late
Now They’ve won, they had acquired victory
This would’ve gone down in gaming history

what I've enjoyed: writing this ballad and spending most of my time at home making it
what I found difficult:

Writing: Holiday

This term we wrote about what we did in the holidays
I forgot to post it weeks ago

Term 1 Holiday

The First week was very casual, nothing too exciting happened.

On the first day of the Holiday i was in my house in my room to rest and to play on my laptop
My dad would be watching tv or sleeping in the lounge for the day. On Saturday till Monday I mostly watched youtube videos about games and theories, I was almost in my room the whole time but when i wasn’t I started watching TV shows: The big bang theory and modern family. On Friday 20th, one of my favourite games was released! God of War 4! I started watching a youtubers gameplay of god of war 4, he would upload a 2 hour video everyday which only took him 10 videos to complete.

One of my favourite foreign shows/anime My Hero Academy/Academia released its third season, which was exciting.

Friday 27th 1:30+ AM I was going to Westfield Riccarton, my Mum would tell me we would go by bus which i didn’t want to do so she had her friends drive us there which was a relief.
Once we arrived it was packed as always with people, I planned to eat at a restaurant, Hong Kong Culture was the places name I ate a big bowl of pasta/noodles which I don’t remember the dish’s name but it was quite delicious. My mother told me i was gonna get a haircut, when I was asked my mum  what kind of haircut I will get bet she didn’t know, the person recommended #3 haircut, she said “uh ok”. My Haircut looked nice but I did want it to be less shorter though.

We walked to hoyts riccarton which was not far away from where i got my haircut, we got tickets and a small bucket of popcorn, we had to wait for cinema 3 which was being cleaned,
I took a seat at a small table, I was sat there like a statue, not moving at all until it was time.
We now were in the cinemas waiting until the advertisements ended. I was excited for the moving so i started eating my popcorn just as the movie started. Once it ended my back was burning from how how the seat was, It was like 25 celsius in the there! It was 5:30 AM when we walked it. We now planned to go get myself some now t shirts, which took a long time. We then walked to pak-n-save to get some groceries which was kinda boring, the only thing my mum bought was some meat and fruits I think…  we walked back up to a place where we got some roast pork for my dad and me which took more time.

We walked outside which mum called her friend to go to where we are, I felt tired when i got in the car, he drove us back to our house which was kinda quiet there was nothing to do next but go on my laptop and tell my friend on discord about what I did today. I stayed up till 11 or 12 before I told myself it was time I should really go to sleep.

What I think i did well: describing my holiday
What I could do next time: more similes, hyperbole etc.
